Kim Dvorchak is the Executive Director of the Colorado Juvenile Defender Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring excellence in juvenile defense and advocacy and justice for all children and youth in Colorado. In her career as a juvenile defender, Ms. Dvorchak represented youth in juvenile court, criminal court, and appellate court, specializing in the defense of children prosecuted as adults. Ms. Dvorchak litigated the constitutionality of Colorado’s direct file statute in the state supreme court and as Executive Director at CJDC spearheaded recent reforms of Colorado’s direct file statute. Ms. Dvorchak presents continuing legal education workshops across the country on juvenile law, litigation strategies for youth prosecuted in adult courts, and legislative reforms that improve the treatment of youth. Kim Dvorchak has been awarded the Robert E. Shepherd Jr. Leadership Award for Excellence in Juvenile Defense by the National Juvenile Defender Center, the Kutak-Dodds Prize for equal justice by the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, and the Champions of Children Advocate by the Sewall Child Development Center.
